Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday hit out at the BJP-led government over deteriorating law and order in the capital after a Kalkaji Temple sewadar was murdered following a dispute over ‘chunni prasad’.
“Didn’t the hands of these miscreants tremble before brutally murdering the sewadar inside the temple? If this isn’t a law and order failure, then what is it? Is anyone safe in Delhi or not?” Kejriwal questioned in a post on X.
AAP’s Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bhardwaj also alleged that police were busy with political tasks instead of public safety, saying criminals had no fear of law enforcement.
The victim, identified as Yogendra Singh (35) from Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, had been serving at the temple for nearly 15 years. According to police, a group of men demanded prasad during darshan, which led to an argument. The situation turned violent, and Singh was beaten with sticks and iron rods. He later succumbed to injuries at AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Police said one accused, Atul Pandey (30), was caught by locals and handed over to authorities, while efforts are underway to nab the others. A case has been registered, and investigation is in progress.
A fellow sewadar told ANI that the attackers often visited the temple with an aggressive attitude, demanding favours from the staff.
